In September 1989, following a gun battle between the Turkish Army and PKK militants in one village of Silopi district of Şırnak, four young farmers (Feyzi Bayan, Reşit Eren, Sadun Bayan and Üzeyir Arzık) set on the road to Silopi from their village to sell their produce loaded on donkeys. They ran into soldiers on the way who asked to see their identity papers. In addition to the four farmers, the soldiers picked up two shepherds passing on the road, Abbas Çiğden and Münür Aydın, purportedly to show them the way to the military operation area. They did not return home that night.

The dead bodies of all six young men were given to their respective families when they were discovered. Villagers testified that they had seen the bodies thrown from helicopters into the military battalion area the day before.

Due to the forced dislocation of the villagers and threats toward the victims’ families, the families could not follow the course of the investigation that was opened at the time of the event but the villagers were recorded as armed militants in the investigation file and the case was closed accordingly. They filed a second petition in 2009 to the Sirnak Prosecution Office. According to information at hand, the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has not carried out an effective investigation since 2009 either.
