Per Yakay-Der’s book on enforced disappearances “Sımsıcaktı Elleri” (How snug were their hands) and an article published on Murat Özsat’s case on 4th July 2011 in the Gaziantep Sabah Newspaper, Diyarbakır-born Murat was a nineteen year-old engineering student, who told his family that since he started studying at Gaziantep University, the police had been pressuring him to work as an informant. On 23rd November 1991, he was placed under custody as he was leaving the HEP (People’s Labour Party) headquarters in Gaziantep and disappeared. His completely charred body was discovered buried in a pauper’s grave with the aid of Association for Human Rights (İHD) on 7th December 1991. Despite the family’s efforts, the authorities insisted that he had never been placed under custody.
