Per press statement released by the Cumartesi İnsanları on 11th November 2017, Abdülselam Şahin was a 43 years old married imam with six children and had recently moved to the Mune (Yılmazlar) village of Hakkari’s Yüksekova district. On 27th November 1993, he was taken into custody by soldiers who stopped the vehicle he had taken to go back home. Other passengers who witnessed his detention notified the Şahin family. The family applied to the Office of Yüksekova Chief Public Prosecutor; however no action was taken regarding the investigation. On 9th April 2012, the family applied to the European Court of Human Rights, which found the case inadmissible due to the six-month time limit for applications.
