- Event description
Per information released by Cumartesi İnsanları during their 19th April 2014 demonstration and his father’s testimony, Mehmet Zeki Doğan was working as a night guard at the Çukurca High School in the Çukurca district of Hakkari, when, according to witness accounts, the Police Special Force came to the high school and led him into an armoured car on the night of 7th June 1994. Mehmet Zeki Doğan was not heard from after this incident. The following day, as the community searched for Mehmet Zeki Doğan, his jacket and one of his shoes were found near the Zap river, in military-controlled area. Witnesses from the nearby village stated that they had seen an armoured vehicle stop by the river and heard gunshots. When the villagers went to the area after the vehicle left, they saw a pool of blood and bullets but no body, leading them to believe that it must have been dumped in the river.
Mehmet Zeki Doğan has not been found. No official investigation was conducted regarding his disappearance.
