Per Yakay-Der records and the plea file for disappearances and unsolved murders published on 5th February 2011 by İHD, once a construction worker, Hüseyin Taşkaya became a successful building contractor in the Siverek district of Urfa. He was accused by some powerful tribes of the area of working for the PKK, an allegation which Hüseyin strongly denied. However, upon the insistence of his relatives he moved his family home to İstanbul and was planning to join them once he finished his contract in Siverek.
After his return to Siverek, on 6th December 1993, his wife’s mother’s home was raided by a mixed crowd of soldiers, policemen and village guards from one of the most powerful tribes of the area. After they left with Hüseyin Taşkaya, he was not seen or heard from, nor were his bodily remains found.
Hüseyin Taşkaya’s wife returned to Siverek from İstanbul, with her son in search of Hüseyin. In 1994, the Public Prosecutor dismissed the case citing lack of evidence.

In September 1994, citing lack of evidence, the Siverek Public Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the application filed by the brother of Hüseyin Taşkaya’s, who had disappeared in December 1993 after being taken into custody by a group of security forces and village guards from a powerful tribe of the Siverek area of Urfa.
In 1997, the ties between state officials and the powerful tribe in question were demonstrated in the report prepared by the Prime Minister’s inspection commission into the Susurluk scandal, involving extra-judicial killings and other illegal activities of certain state officials.
In 2009, the family of Hüseyin Taşkaya and nine other victims of enforced disappearance applied to the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which launched an investigation (file no. 2008/1756).
