- Event description
Per article published by the Evrensel Newspaper on 18th October 2011 and the statement released by Cumartesi İnsanları on 3rd September 2011, Mehmet Veysi Sezer was a Silvan-born 23-year-old electrician with a passion for music. In the fall of 1993, he went to a house in the Feridun neighbourhood of Silvan, Diyarbakır to repair a television. According to witness accounts, on his way out of the neighbourhood, he was stopped by Hizbullah members for an ID check and forcibly taken away by three armed men. Fearful of the consequences they might face given the atmosphere of the decade, the family could not take any action until his father applied to the Silvan Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2006 with a petition, which was turned down. In response to the petition submitted by Mehmet Veysi Sezer’s brother in 2006, the Police informed the Prosecutor’s Office that there was a standing search warrant for Mehmet Veysi Sezer for his activities as an armed PKK militant.
