Per Human Rights Association’s (İHD) 2011-dated appeal file and Yakayder’s book “Sımsıcaktı Elleri” (How snug were their hands); Mehmet Güler was a 24 year-old married man with three children. A Diyarbakır-born high school graduate, he worked in the İhlas cargo company. He left home on 1st December 1997 to go to work but never came back. When his mother enquired at his workplace, his boss told her that he had left with a colleague to go to Batman and all was well. However, he did not return. Mehmet Güler used to be affiliated with the Hizbullah Organization, like his boss and the above-mentioned colleague, but had severed ties with the group. Suspecting the involvement of his boss and colleague, she filed a complaint at the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In 1999, during the operations of the security forces against the Hizbullah, Mehmet Güler’s boss and colleague were also implicated.
