Per witness and plaintiff depositons in the investigation file, Adil Ölmez lived in Beytüşebbap’s Bölücek (Günyüzü) village with his brother’s family. He had a psychological disorder, which diminished his mental capabilities. The family moved to Cizre when Adil’s brother refused to become a village guard in 1991.

One day in the fall of 1994, Adil was taken into custody while he was at the market place in Cizre.. He came back home 3-4 days later very frightened, sick and with torture marks all over his body. His mental health deteriorated severely after his detention, so his brother took him to a hospital in Diyarbakir where he was referred to a mental hospital in Elazığ. The doctors told the brother that he would be notified when his brother was to be discharged from the hospital, so he left Adil there and returned home. In April 1995, he went to visit Adil and he was told that the hospital had not been able to reach him by phone so they discharged his brother two weeks earlier. Upon returning back to Cizre, he looked for his brother everywhere and found out that he had seen at the Cizre bus terminal. However he could not find his brother. Adil Ölmez has not been seen or heard from, nor have his bodily remains been found.

The following days, several plainclothes policemen came to the brother’s house multiple times to ask for him. Fearing that the same thing could happen to him, the brother left Cizre for six months and did not file a complaint regarding his brother’s disappearance. He applied to the Office of the Silopi Public Prosecutor in 2009 when they heard that a major investigation was being carried out for extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances that had happened in 1990s in and around Şırnak. As of June 2015, the investigation is on-going.
