Per indictment (file no.2009/972) prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, during an ID check at the Zıristan hamlet of Silopi district’s Üçağaç village in Şırnak, Abdullah Özdemir and the seventeen-year-old son of his cousin İzzet Padır was taken into custody by a group of soldiers accompanied by ex-PKK-members-turned-JİTEM-employees. On their way back, the soldiers saw İzzet Paydır and took him, as well. His seventeen-year-old son was released from the Cizre District Gendarmerie Command the following day. When inquired by family members, the Gendarmerie Command claimed that the two men had been released awhile later. However, Abdullah Özdemir and İzzet Padır have not been seen or heard from, nor have their bodily remains been found.

Per indictment (file no.2009/972) prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, after the disappearance of Abdullah Özdemir and İzzet Padır, who had been taken to the Cizre District Gendarmerie Command, the authorities at the Gendarmerie Command claimed that the two men had been released from custody. The investigation (file no.1994/2849) launched on 20th June 1994 by the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was transferred multiple times between different Prosecutor’s Offices without any finding and dragged on until 2002, when a standing search warrant was issued for the two men.
In 2009, following widely publicized claims made about JİTEM activities in the region by ex-JİTEM members, the disappearance of Abdullah Özdemir and İzzet Padır was included in the indictment prepared (file no.2009/972) by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on 21 murders carried out by a groups of soldiers and ex-PKK-members-turned-JİTEM-employees led by the District Gendarmerie Commander. On 5th November 2015, all the defendants were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
