Per ruling delivered by the ECHR on 20th April 2004 and indictment bill prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, as Savaş Buldan was leaving the Çınar Hotel in İstanbul at 4.30 am on 3th August 1994 with Hacı Karay and Adnan Yıldırım, they were stopped by seven-eight armed men in bulletproof vests who introduced themselves as police officers and forced them into a car after conducting a body check. Their dead bodies, which showed signs of torture, were discovered later in the evening in Bolu, 270 km away from İstanbul.
The murder was included in the indictment bill prepared for the Ankara JİTEM trial which began on 16th May 2014 with nineteen defendants, including the then Chief of Police and the Deputy Chief of the Police Special Operations Department, high-ranking military staff and special force police officers, accused of eighteen murders.

Per ruling delivered by the ECHR on 20th April 2004 and indictment bill prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the murder of Savaş Buldan, Hacı Karay and Adnan Yıldırım, whose dead bodies were discovered after being abducted and tortured by men introducing themselves as police officers, was included in the report prepared in 1996 by the National Intelligence Service for the Susurluk Trial, involving extra-judicial executions, extortion and other illegal activities carried out by government officials. In the following years, the case changed hands between different prosecutor’s offices with a Susurluk defendant as the only suspect, who was acquitted in 1999 due to lack of evidence.
