Per testimony of his family members, Hazım Ünver moved from his native Delaka village in Şırnak’s Uludere district to Adana with his family. He was married with three children. In 1996, Hazım Ünver went to see his uncle in Uludere and told him that he would go to Iraq. Hazım Ünver didn’t come back for a very long time. His uncle called their relative sin Iraq and learnt that he had left Iraq one month ago. The uncle confirmed at the customs gate that Hazım Ünver entered Turkey around a month ago and started looking for his niece. As he continued his search, he was warned that if he were to inquire any further, a similar thing might happen to him.
Hazım Ünver has not been seen or heard from, nor have his bodily remains been found.

In December 2008, Hazım Unver’s uncle was among the applicants included in the joint criminal complaint filed by the families of fifty-four victims of enforced disappearance, for whom hopes flared after widely mediatized claims about burial sites of JITEM victims. However, tests on excavated bones at alleged sites revealed that they belonged to animals.
The investigation, which also includes Hazım Unver’s disappearance after his entry to Turkey via Iraq-Turkey border in 1996, is on-going under the Silopi Public Prosecutor’s jurisdiction with file number 2014/939.
