Per petition filed in 2009 by Ali Müldür’s father with the public prosecutor’s office regarding his disappearance, police officers came to the Müldür family’s house in 1994 and asked to see the 35-year-old farmer Ali Müldür. Upon learning that he was not at home, the police officers left. Ali did not come home that night or in the following days. He has not been seen or heard from since that then. Fearing retaliation, the Müldür family did not apply to authorities regarding Ali’s disappearance.
In 2009, the confessions made by two secret witnesses led to the opening of an investigation by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor into several crimes, including arbitrary executions and enforced disappearances, committed in Cizre between 1993 and 1995. The office of the Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor, joined by the office of Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor, collected witness testimonies and arrested suspects. Several families in Cizre, Silopi and İdil applied to the Offices of Public Prosecutors to discover the whereabouts of their beloved ones. Müldür’s father is among plaintiffs who applied to the office of the Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor and as of 2014 the investigation into his son’s disappearance is still ongoing. In 2008 journalist Faruk Arslan published a book, containing statements regarding extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances that happened in the 1990s in and around Şırnak. After the release of the book, the Şırnak Bar Association applied to the Office of Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor, which opened an investigation into these murders. The relatives of 54 people, who were murdered or disappeared in the 1990s, including Ali Müldür’s father, applied to the Office of the Public Prosecutor. In 2009, under the scope of the investigation, an exhumation was conducted in an ex-military facility. Per forensic reports, all the bones discovered during the exhumation belonged to animals. As of 2014, the investigation is still ongoing. Hafıza Merkezi does not hold any further information regarding its progress.
