Per witness depositions and news article published in the Radikal Newspaper on 28th June 2011, twenty-two-year-old university student Hüsamettin Yaman disappeared after being placed in custody with his friend Soner Gül by police officers in İstanbul in May 1992. His brother searched for him to no avail.
Hüsamettin Yaman has not been seen or heard from, nor have his bodily remains been discovered.
Sometime after his disappearance, the police claimed that his belongings were discovered in a hide-out used by an illegal organization. The court case in Turkey was dismissed; the family’s application to the ECHR was also dismissed due to lack of evidence.
In 2011, a former special forces police officer claimed that the two students had been executed following interrogation.
The investigation is on-going.

The court case that was initiated for the 1992 disappearance of university students Hüsamettin Yaman and Soner Gül was dismissed after the belongings of Yaman were discovered in a house that was allegedly used by an illegal organization.
