Per press statement released by Cumartesi İnsanları on 22nd February 2014, Murat Yıldız, who had fled the police after firing his gun during an altercation with them, was accompanied to the Özkanlar Police Station in Bornova, İzmir by his mother, cousin and lawyer to turn himself in. As Murat stated that the gun he had used was in İstanbul, he had to be taken to İstanbul. When his mother asked about her son’s whereabouts, she was told that her son had jumped into the sea and disappeared while he was on the ferry with two policemen. The two police men were found guilty of neglecting duty and sentenced to a monetary fine. Murat Yıldız has not been heard from or seen, nor have his bodily remains been found.
