Per Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor’s case file on İsa Soysal, a married man with three children, was living in the Karox (Karuğ) hamlet of Bozalan village, connected to Silopi county (Şırnak), making his living through agriculture and husbandry. One day in the fall of 1988 (or November of 1990, according to his brother), two men in plain clothes came to İsa Soysal’s house and left with him claiming they“have business to conduct with[him]and have to go to Diyarbakır.”

İsa Soysal was not heard of since then, nor were his bodily remains found.

His family searched for him at the hospitals, the police stations and prisons 10 days after his disappearance to no avail. Only when the political pressure started decreasing in 2009 were they able to make an official complaint.

Following the release of a book “Karakutu: Ergenekonun Karanlık İsmi Tuncay Güney” (Blackbox: Tuncay Güney, The Shady Figure of Ergenekon), which claimed that JİTEM had buried victims’ remains at the Silopi Botaş Facility site, the President of the Şırnak Bar Association successfully applied to the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, initiating an investigation (no.2008/3151) that also included İsa Soysal’s disappearance. After transfers between several prosecutor’s offices due to procedural requirements, the Silopi Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the last to take over the case, (no.2014/939) issued a standing warrant for the relatives of nine plaintiffs, including İsa Soysal’s case.

The investigation continues as of 2015 March.
