Per press statement released by Cumartesi İnsanları on 20th June 2015 and the witness deposition given by family members of Enter Özdemir, Bapir Çıtak and Enter Özdemir were farmers, living in the Tiyar (Kazan) village of Hakkâri’s Çukurca district. On May 1994, there was a clash between the Turkish military brigade and the PKK near Tiyar village. Following the clash, the soldiers came to their village and took Bapir Çıtak and Enter Özdemir from their houses, saying that they needed the villagers to serve as guides. However, the two villagers did not come back home the following day. Çıtak and Özdemir families, worried about their beloved ones, went to the military brigade to ask for Bapir and Enter. The military officers claimed that the villagers were not taken by them.

The dead bodies of Bapir and Enter were found by their families near a creek. The marks on their bodies showed that they were tied to a vehicle and dragged along, then shot to death with fire guns. The families went to the brigade again but the military did not take any responsibility for the killings.

There have been no further developments in the case.

Two months later, Bapir’s son, Abdullah Çıtak became a victim of enforced disappearance at the hands of men in military uniforms. The family found his body in a ditch. For further information on Abdullah’s case, please see the entry under his name.
