- Event description
Per Yakay-Der’s book on enforced disappearances “Sımsıcaktı Elleri” (How snug were their hands), at the time of his disappearance, Mehmet Nur Dayan was a 14-year-old living in the Aktepe village of Çınar district in Diyarbakır. On 14th January 1993, he left the village with his 27-year-old neighbor Ömer Öner on the latter’s tractor; but they did not return home. As the families searched for the two missing men, they learned from witnesses that the two men were last seen entering a village known for its ties to the Hizbullah organization. About 8 months later, the tractor was located in another village in possession of an individual who stated that he had bought it from the Gendarmerie. The family applied to authorities, to no avail. They have not been heard from or seen since then, nor have their bodily remains been found.
