Per press statement released by Cumartesi İnsanları on 18th October 2014 and Yakay-Der’s book on enforced disappearances “Sımsıcaktı Elleri” (How snug were their hands), seventeen-year-old photographer Yılmaz Gümüş, who had been detained by the police one month ago, left his home in Batman to go to his job on 21st October 1993 and disappeared. His father, who had been warned, shortly before, by unknown men that his son was attracting unwanted attention for listening to Kurdish songs, searched for his son, to no avail.
Yılmaz Gümüş has not been heard from or seen nor has his body been found.
In 2003, Yımaz Gümüş was included on the list of 180 victims of unsolved murders prepared by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and submitted to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office (file no. 2003/4131 for summary of proceedings for investigation and file no. 2011/160 for the summary of proceedings for decision). There is a standing search warrant for Yımaz Gümüş issued by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Following the disappearance of Yılmaz Gümüş on 21st October 1993, his father made a written application to the President’s Office on 25th June 1994 and to the Batman Central Police Station on 25th August 1994. Later, after the discovery of Hizbullah hide-outs in Diyarbakir, he applied to the Counterterrorism Division of the Batman Police on 4th March 1998.
