Per Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor’s investigation file on Bahri Arslan’s death, he was living with his mother, father and brothers in the Bertur hamlet of Şırnak’s Kırkkuyu village. He had been detained several times in the past. During a military operation on the Kırkkuyu village, he was taken by the soldiers along with several other villagers. His family heard nothing from him for several days. Then, he was briefly brought to the hamlet by soldiers. That was the last time his sister saw him alive. Bahri and twenty other villagers were taken away in a helicopter to an unknown location.

Four days later, the Şırnak municipality called Bahri’s father and told him that his son had been killed. Eventually, the body was given back to the family for burial. Bahri’s family went to the Kızılsu and Şırnak Gendarmerie Stations to ask why Bahri was killed. They received contradictory statements.

The family was afraid to initiate a legal process at the time. On 25th March 2009, his sister submitted a petition to the Cizre Public Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation is ongoing as of June 2015. Hafıza Merkezi does not hold any further information regarding the progress of the judiciary process.
