- Event description
Per Yakay-Der records and news article published on 31st July 1993 by the Özgür Gündem Newspaper, twenty-six-year-old Aydın Ay was living in Batman with his mother and father and working as a construction worker. He was a member of the pro-Kurdish HEP party (People’s Labour Party). At approximately 9 pm on 10th July 1993, he went out to buy cigarettes but did not return home. That night, several witnesses saw him being forced into a red car.
After having learnt that Aydın was at the Batman Police Headquarters, his mother went there every day. For 14 days, she carried food to the police station. The police took the food but told her nothing about her son. On the 15th day, a man inside the station told her in Kurdish that he could not accept the food because her son was not at the police station. Then, Aydın’s father went to the police headquarters and asked for his son. The officers told him that their son was not at the station.
Aydın Ay has not been seen or heard from, nor have his bodily remains been found.
