Per TIHV’s human rights report for year 1995 and ANF news site’s article dated 3rd December 2013, Mehmet Sait Zengin was a married small shop owner with four children. When he was detained for fourteen days and tortured in the spring of 1995, he already had a history of detention and was receiving threats. About a week after his release, he was taken from his house by two plain clothes men introducing themselves as police officers from Mardin and driven away in a white Toros car. His family searched for him to no avail. Village guards with connections in the government promised to find Mehmet Sait Zengin in exchange for money but did not give the family any answers despite being paid. Given the circumstances of the period, the family did not initiate a legal process.

He has not been heard from or seen since then, nor have his bodily remains been found.
