- Event description
Abdulhakim Tanrıverdi disappeared from Kuştepe village of Cizre/Şırnak where he was living with his wife and five children, April 9, 1993. Eight days later, his body was found.
On the day that he disappeared, three to four individuals had knocked on his door, threatened and forced him to come outside and then left the vicinity with him.
The family applied to the gendarme and village guards to search for him to no avail. On April 17, his body was found on the road to İdil, his hands and feet tied, covered with stones. His family took his body and buried him. Later in 2009, the family members applied to the prosecutor’s office and filed in a criminal complaint. There were, however, no significant developments in the investigation.

In less than a month, the initial investigation into the forced disappearance of Abdulhakim Tanriverdi was closed down with a decision of non-prosecution based on the allegation that he was killed by a terrorist organization with a political motivation. Several years later in 2009 the members of the Tanriverdi family filed another complaint with the prosecutor's office in Cizre. The investigation that was opened thereafter went on till the midst of 2015 with no significant development.
