In 2009, upon Ahmet Üstün’s brother’s application, a new investigation was launched by the Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office with file number (2009/430; later changed to 2014/1859).
As of June 2015, the investigation is on-going.
Parallelly, in 2009, another investigation was launched into extra-judicial killings carried out by a gang formed by the Cizre District Gendarmerie Commander, who was seen in Ahmet’s village along with two of his gang members on the night of his disappearance. All the defendants were acquitted in 2015.
