- Event description
Per Amnesty International’s call for action released on 23rd November 1995 and the new article “Two murders by unknown assailants in Diyarbakır” published on 10th November 1995, twenty-one-year-old Fehmi Akyürek’s family had moved to Diyarbakır after their village had been burnt down in 1994. On 26th March 1995, Ramazan Ayhan and Fehmi Akyürek, who was on temporary leave from military service, left the Bursa Coffeehouse together and disappeared. The family’s efforts proved fruitless. On 9th November 1995, their dead bodies were discovered along with Abdülbaki Işık’s body on the banks of the Dicle river; their hands were tied from behind and their bodies carried signs of torture. Their families applied to authorities, all to no avail.
