Per plaintiff depositions, İzzettin Acet was a thirty-one-year-old was a civil servant who was also an imam. His driver, twenty-nine-year-old Mehmet Emin Kaynar, was living in the same neignbourhood as him in Cizre. Mehmet Emin Kaynar was receiving threats from former PKK-members-turned-JİTEM informants and İzzettin Acet had been detained by the security forces three times prior to their disappearance.
On 28th October 1994, the two men were last seen sitting in a coffeehouse with unknown men. Their badly charred bodies were discovered in Urfa about a month later.
In 2004, in his confessions, a former JİTEM member claimed that Mehmet Emin Kaynar and İzzettin Acet had been murdered by JİTEM members.
The families of the two men made new criminal complaints to the Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2009. The investigation is on-going.

Per plaintiff depositions, the investigation led by the Siverek Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office did not yield any results.
After confessions made by a former JİTEM member about the murder of Mehmet Emin Kaynar and İzzettin Acet, the families of the two men made new criminal complaints to the Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in 2009.
The investigation is on-going under file number 2009/430.
