Per articles published on 9th August 2014 in the Milliyet Newspaper, on 26th December 2014 DİHA’s internet site and the family’s testimony, eighteen-year-old Serhat Bilen and twenty-four-year-old Rıda Yavuz were taken into custody after being wounded by soldiers opening fire on demonstrators after a protest in the Derik district of Mardin on 15th August 1992. The families of the three demonstrators searched for them to no avail. They have not been heard from or seen, nor have their bodily remains been found.
In 2012, the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the extrajudicial execution of thirteen civilians between 1992 and 1994 by the District Gendarmerie Commander. The three disappeared protestors were not included in the file. The Commander was eventually acquitted of all charges.

Eighteen-year-old Serhat Bilen, nineteen-year-old Necat Türk, and twenty-four-year-old Rıda Yavuz were taken into custody after being wounded by soldiers opening fire on demonstrators after a protest in the Derik district of Mardin on 15th August 1992. The families of the three demonstrators searched for them to no avail. In 2009, an unmarked burial site, which was alleged to belong to the demonstrators was discovered by their families, who had the bones tested for DNA in 2011 after a lengthy legal battle; however, the results were negative. In 2012, the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the extrajudicial execution of thirteen civilians between 1992 and 1994 by the District Gendarmerie Commander. The three disappeared protestors were not included in the file. The Commander was eventually acquitted of all charges.
