- Event description
Per Yakay-Der records and the news article published in Özgür Gündem Newspaper on 19th May 2013, primary school graduate Ahmet Eğitmiş was working as a photographer in Diyarbakır. In 1997, Eğitmiş was taken under custody due to alleged links to the PKK. He was released after having been severely tortured for 25 days. On the morning of 22nd May 1998 Eğitmiş left his house for work. He told his family he would go to Bingöl to have identity cards issued for his children but he did not come back home.
He has not been seen or heard from him since, nor have his bodily remains been found.
In an effort to find him, his family asked relatives and the Bingöl District Registry Office if they had any information about his whereabout. On 3rd June 1998, a mukhtar from Bingöl called Eğitmiş’s father and asked him to come to Bingöl. In Bingöl, the mukhtar introduced the father to a civilian officer. The officer told Eğitilmiş’s father that the PKK had killed his son Ahmet but they had not been able to locate the body. Ahmet’s father also applied to the Diyarbakır Police Department, where he was assured that he would be contacted about any further development in the case, but the family was not contacted again.
