Per press statement released by Cumartesi İnsanları on 27th September 2014 and news article published by the Radikal Newspaper on 7th December 2012, 19-year-old Hüseyin Morsümbül was taken into custody by soldiers in Bingöl during. joint police-military raid on the family house on 18th September 1980, shortly after the 1980 military coup.
When the family started searching for him, his father was also taken into custody and then released the next day. Four years later, an unknown man who called the family at their house told them that their son Hüseyin had been killed under torture.
The family moved to İstanbul to flee pressure from the local authorities.
The investigation launched upon the parents’ criminal complaint in November 2011 is on-going under the jurisdiction of the Bingöl Prosecutor’s Office.
The joint criminal complaint filed by twelve families impacted by the coup of 1980 is under review by the Constitutional Court.
Hüseyim Morsümbül has not been seen or heard from, nor have his bodily remains been located.

Following 19-year-old Hüseyin Morsümbül’s disappearance in custody days after the coup of 1980, his father was detained in order to end the family’s search for their son. Weary of pressure from local authorities, the Morsümbül family moved to İstanbul.
In March 2011, a Morsümbül family member filed a criminal complaint at the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office along with eleven others for their relatives who disappeared or were killed during the coup of 1980.In November 2011, Hüseyin Morsümbül’s parents also filed a criminal complaint at the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office about the military staff for “murder by torture”. The file was transferred to the Bingöl Prosecutor’s Office.
The joint criminal complaint filed at the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office was dismissed (file no. 2012/40291 ) in 2014; after the families’ appeal was rejected by a higher court, they took the case to the Constitutional Court emphasizing that statute of limitations cannot apply to crimes against humanity. The application file was completed with the submission of missing documents on 14th July 2015.
