Per records of the Association for Solidarity and Support for Relatives of Disappeared Persons (Yakay-Der), Bayram was 29 years old, married with four children and working in construction jobs as a laborer. He had not never been to school. His uncle Hamit Bal was a 49-year-old man, who was married with 8 children and working as a farmer in Mardin’s Nusaybin district’s Kuruköy village at the time of the events. He had never been to school either. He had been taken by the state forces several times and tortured so severely that he needed daily care for a while.

In March 1994, their village was raided by the military. Bayram and Hamit were taken away by the soldiers. Members of Bal family applied to multiple official bodies to find the whereabouts of their beloved ones without any substantial consequence. In the gendarmerie station, they often heard from The officials at the gendarmerie station claimed multiple times that the Bals had most likely joined the PKK after they had been released by the gendarmerie.

About two months later, their dead bodies were found near a construction site, not far from the village, with torture marks all over their bodies. They were killed by two bullets to the head. The families took the bodies and buried them in the village. They feared to press any charges and did not applied to the Office of Public Prosecutor.
