Per Kadir Keremoğlu’s son’s testimony before the Susurluk Investigation Commission, the Yüksekova born 67-year-old businessman Kadir Keremoğlu was living with his family in Van and running a transportation firm. Following the Prime Minister’s remarks on the existence of a list of Kurdish businessmen supporting the PKK, on 10th July 1994, Keremoğlu received a phone call from a former PKK member-turned intelligence agency officer, who demanded 100 thousand Deutsche Marks in exchange for removing his name from the list. Having notified the authorities of this call, Keremoğlu’s meeting with the caller resulted in the arrest of the latter along with two others, which made Keremoğlu the target of continuous threats of retaliation. On 15th April 1995, Keremoğlu was abducted in Van by a group of men in four different cars (including a Toros) and was handed over to Mahmut Yıldırım a.k.a “Yeşil” in the same city.

As the family searched for Keremoğlu to no avail, they were contacted by two men, who identified themselves as members of the Special Warfare Department and demanded that they pay 750 thousand Deutsche Marks for the return of Keremoğlu, who, by their account, was being kept by Mahmut Yildirim. When the callers failed to let the family speak to Kadir Keremoğlu to prove their claims, the family did not make the payment. Shortly later, two of their firm’s buses were set on fire. According to the findings of the police, the bank account given by the caller belonged to Mahmut Yıldırım.

The family tried to locate Keremoğlu, seeking the assistance of many authorities, including that of a Hakkari MP and of the Chief of Police, who claimed to assign the Deputy Chief of the Police Special Operations Department to the task. However, Keremoğlu has not been found nor any information regarding him has come to light.
