Per press statement released by Cumartesi İnsanları on 21st July 2012 and Yakay-Der records, Ebubekir Aras was a twenty-seven-year-old living in the Cizre district of Şırnak with his family. He was arrested during the Newroz demonstrations in Cizre and released by court after ten days of detention.
On the morning of 13th July 1994, he was taken from his house by a group of ten people arriving in armoured police vehicles.
Initially, the police and the prosecutor’s office assured the family that he would be released in a timely manner. Sometime later, the police claimed that Ebubekir had been released from custody after giving statement.
Despite the many efforts of his family, Ebubekir Aras has not been seen or heard from, nor have his bodily remains been found.

The family of Ebubekir Aras, who had disappeared after being taken from his home in armored police vehicles in 1994, applied to the authorities, who claimed that he was released from detention after giving statement.
An investigation was eventually launched in 2009 under file number 2014/1859 and is on-going under the Cizre Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office as of June 2015.
