Per records of Yakay-Der and news article published on 6th July 2004 by the Ülkede Özgür Gündem newspaper, 32-year-old Adnan Bağca was a taxi driver. He was living and working in Siverek, Şanlıurfa. He was married and had four children. On 11th. June 1990, he called his family to inform them that he was taking a passenger from the cab station and travelling to Diyarbakır.
He has not been heard from again, nor have his bodily remains been found.
Three days after the incident, the Siverek Police Directorate informed the family that he had been placed in custody in Diyarbakır, but it was later denied. Six months after Adnan Bağca’s disappearance, his brother, tracking the license plate number of Adnan’s car, found out that the car had been sold with forged documents at a car showroom along the Van-Siirt highway. The showroom owners were detained and questioned, but nothing came out of the investigation.
The family kept asking the Siverek Police Directorate, the Office of Diyarbakır Chief Prosecutor and Ministry of Internal Affairs about Adnan’s whereabouts but nothing came out of the investigation. In 2000, the family applied to Diyarbakır Human Rights Association for legal assistance.
