Per indictment bill prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and news article published in the Cumhuriyet newspaper on 2nd July 2011, fifty-year-old Namık Erdoğan worked as an inspector at the Ministry of Health in Ankara. He disappeared on the night of 9th May 1994; his dead body was found on 12th May 1994.
At the time of his disappearance he was investigating suspicions of intimidation and bribery in bidding processes by a company run by prominent ultra-right militants. It was also claimed that Namık Erdoğan was on the trail of an international network, trafficking a type of acid used in heroin manufacturing.
As of 2014, the former Chief of Police, Deputy Chief of the Special Force Department, high-ranking military staff and a group of special forces police officers are on trial for nineteen extrajudicial killings including the murder of Erdoğan.

The investigation launched into the abduction and murder of the Ministry of Health inspector Namık Erdoğan continued for years without any tangible result, with the ballistic examination of bullets in 2010.
The investigation took a new turn in 2013 with the investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which included Erdoğan among nineteen victims assassinated by a group of special force police officers led by the former Chief of Police, Deputy Chief of the Special Force Department and lieutenant colonel. As of 2014, the trial is on-going at the 1st High Penal Court of Ankara.
