Per TİHV’s (Human Rights Foundation of Turkey) 1995 human rights report for Turkey, Süleyman Yalçın was a sixty-one-year-old peasant residing in the Bakacık village of Nusaybin, Mardin. On the evening of 26th May 1995, he was taken from his house by 6-7 masked and armed men, who assured his family that he would be released after giving his statement. However, his dead body was discovered near the village the following morning. His family suspected the head village guard working in their area. Shortly after his death, the village was evacuated by security forces.
