Per indictment bill (no.2014/82) prepared by the Midyat Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office; prior to his disappearance on 8th March 1996, special sergeant Bilal Batırır had carried out at least one extrajudicial execution on order from his superiors. Furthermore, he was remorseful about the extrajudicial killing of eight villagers suspected of aiding the PKK with the abduction of two teachers (please see Abdurrahman Olcay, Abdurrahman Coşkun, Davut Altınkaynak, Mehmet Emin Aslan, Nedim Akyön, Seyhan Doğan, Hikmet Kaya and Süleyman Seyhan) and had informed Süleyman Seyhan’s family of the whereabouts of his dead body.
The investigation into Batırır’s disappearance, which was merged with the case of eight villagers, lagged on with multiple jurisdiction changes until 2014, when an indictment bill was prepared charging the Mardin Gendarmerie Commando Battalion Commander, Dargeçit Township Gendarmerie Commander, Dargeçit Center Gendarmerie Guard Commander, Aide to the Gendarmerie Guard Commander, a Specialist Sergeant and thirteen village guards with the enforced disappearance of Bilal Batırır and 8 villagers in 2014. The trial began in 2015.

While questioning Batırır’s colleagues, his wife was told that he had been burnt in the boiler room by the Batallion Commander and the Gendarmerie Commander.
