- Summary of the legal proceedings
After the discovery of Abdülkerim and Ramazan Akti’s dead bodies on 8th December 1994, the Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation, which was transferred, during the following decade, between various prosecutor’s offices due to jurisdiction issues. In the course of the investigation it was understood that the bullets found at the crime scene were not tested until 2001 and despite lack of evidence, the prosecution assumed that the two men had been executed by the PKK after ceasing their assistance to the organization.
In 2007, the Governorship of Mardin’s Commission for determination of damages resulting from terror or counterterrorism activities (set up under law 5233) awarded the family monetary compensation (decision no.2007/2-4936).
As of 2014, the murder investigation is on-going under the jurisdiction of the Midyat Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
