According to two appeals published by Amnesty International on 10th and 23rd of November 1995, public records of Association for Solidarity and Support for Relatives of Disappeared Persons (Yakay-der) and a number of press news on the event, Abdulbaki Işık (56) was the uncle of Fahri Kusun who was forcefully disappeared after being detained on July 26, 1995 in Diyarbakır. After his brother’s disappearance, Tevfik Kusun was also detained and threatened to be killed like his brother if he did not provide information on the alleged illegal activities of several people on a list prepared by the security forces themselves. Informed by his nephew that his name was on the list, Abdulbaki Işık fled to Mersin for a couple of months. After a couple of months, he returned home when he heard that a draw for a chance to own a home for those whose houses were burnt down when the villages were forcefully evacuated would be done. Arriving to the Sports Hall where the lottery would be done on 28th of October 1995, he realized that his name was not on the lottery list, and left there to go to his home. He was abducted in a white Renault car on the way back and was not heard from again.

His body was found later on the banks of Dicle River around Çarıklı village along with those of Fehmi Akyürek (22) and Ramazan Ayhan on Nov. 9, 1995. There were signs of torture on their bodies and their hands were tied behind their backs.

The body of Abdulbaki Işık was not given back to the family on grounds of security, but taken hurriedly by a military vehicle and buried at the Mardinkapı Cemetery.
